The ability to do the abs and low back program with an arthritic back depends of the severity of the arthritis. Are you taking any type of joint compound with MSM, Chondroitin and Glucosamine? If not, this could help. I would recommend doing the exercises within a range that is comfortable if that is even possible. Again, without knowing how bad it is, I'm just throwing out suggestions that may help. You can also do what's called an isometric contraction. With this type of contraction the back doesn't bend, you just tighten (hold for 5-10 seconds) and relax the ab muscles. I hope this helps.

Hi Tomwhen i do the combo crunch..i feel a crunch feeling in my back or maybe my hip? i dont push myself..jsut doing it gently..any suggestions why i feel a crunch in my back or my hip?

Corinna, the crunch feeling is most likely your spine simply getting aligned as it presses against the floor. Doing these exercises on a soft cushioned surface will help. If it's painful, stop the exercise and consult your doctor. If it's simply the spine getting aligned it's normal and nothing to worry about.

Sometimes increasing circulation by walking distances can alleviate symptoms of arthritis. Core strengthening may not be indicated
