Dr. Mark Hyman explains in this 8-minute video about “drugs” we eat that have a negative impact on health. He’s not referring to medications, but rather chemicals such as sugar, caffeine, alcohol, trans fats and high fructose corn syrup among others. During The Daniel Plan WEEK 2, we encourage you take a drug holiday, and replace with whole foods, water and exercise.

Can we replace sugar with natural stuff like pure honey? Also, how about decaffinated coffee?

Thank you Dr. Hyman!!!!!!!

I heard maple syrup was ok. Also, decaf coffee should be ok, although it still has very small traces of caffeine left. I think it's almost impossible to completely remove 100% of the caffeine during the decaf process before roasting the coffee beans.

I have actually followed this with a Holistic doctor for 3 weeks and then tried to re-introduce some of my foods back into my life. The result.....I cannot have 90% of the foods that I have been eating in the past. They cause very adverse reactions from my body, such as instant headache, palpitations of the heart, stomach distress and others that are embarrassing to add. I appreciate this video. I hope more people take heed in it and just do it how I did. Just give it a 3 week try and then try to re-introduce foods back. You will be amazed at your findings. Again thank you for trying to get the word out to all who will even partially listen.

@Ron: Diet Sodas are sweetened with either Aspartame (includes Equal, Nutrasweet brands), Sucralose (includes Splenda brand), or Saccharin (includes Sweet’N Low brand)Dr. Oz says these can make craving food WORSE: can make you more hungry, can be addictive, , but FDA says no cancer link.try sweetening wit: Honey: Unlike white table sugar, honey is a complex food. One teaspoon contains 25 other compounds including proteins, amino acids and trace minerals. Agave: A distilled sweetener derived from the blue agave cactus, agave has a low glycemic index. Stevia: A low-calorie sweetener that comes from a plant native to Paraguay and Brazil, stevia is 200 times sweeter than table sugar, so a little goes a long way.

What about teas?

Gil,this is an editing problem in the curriculum. The YouPrint study guides say that for homework you should "Learn 10 Steps for how to cut cravings." The Daniel Amen piece only has 9 steps. Here is the link you need if you are doing a small group: http://www.danielplan.com/healthyhabits/conqueryourcravings/
