This week, The Daniel Plan exposes you to the severe problem of food addiction and offers ways to help. Being overweight is commonly blamed on bad habits, weak will power, genetics, the media or lack of exercise. However, certain foods stimulate both physiological and emotional responses which are just as powerful as alcohol, drug and other addictions!
What is a Food Addiction?
Addiction is a dependence on a substance in which the affected individual feels powerless to stop. With two-thirds of American adults and one-third of American children being overweight or at risk of being obese, that's more than 200 million people who may be addicted to food.
Food addiction is characterized by obsession with food, the accessibility of food and the expectancy of pleasure from eating food. Food addiction involves the recurring consumption of food against the individual's better judgment resulting in loss of control and anxiety or the limitation of food and obsession with body weight and image.
