Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. —Galatians 6:9 NLT

We all get physically tired and need rest. But the apostle Paul urges us not to get emotionally and spiritually tired of doing good. We need to hold onto the hope that doing what is right will lead to a harvest of blessing.

God invites us first of all to do good for ourselves. He asks us to make small, intentional choices that will end up producing a great harvest if we persist. Today you might take one little step toward a goal, trusting that the harvest will come.

Then, by caring for ourselves like this, we will have the strength of heart to do good for others. We’ll have the courage to persevere in doing what is right and generous toward others, trusting that again, the harvest will come. Perhaps there is someone you can encourage today, some small step of kindness you can take, or a ministry you can participate in that pours life into others.

Food for Thought: The Bible encourages us to “Trust steadily in God, hope unswervingly, love extravagantly” (1 Corinthians 13:13 MSG). We can have confident hope in the coming harvest and draw on God’s strength to love extravagantly.
