I lie in the dust; revive me by your word (Psalm 119:25 NLT)

When stress has us flattened in the dust, God’s Word can be like a nutrient-packed drink providing the energy we need to get on our feet again. The stories of God’s intervention in the lives of biblical men and women can remind us that he is working for good in his people’s lives.

The guidance on how to live can clarify our confusion. As the psalmist says, “The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy. The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes” (Psalm 19:7-8 MSG).

God’s promises, too, can uplift our souls. There are more than seven thousand of them, and we can count on everyone. For instance, “When you’re in over your head, I’ll be there with you. When you’re in rough waters, you will not go down” (Isaiah 43:2 MSG). Stress may be like rough waters, but God promises he will enable us to swim safely to shore.

Food for Thought: God’s Word is a treasure trove of nourishment for the stressed-out soul.
