LAUGH AND ENJOY BETTER HEALTH! IT’S NO JOKE

Why did the turkey cross the road? To prove it wasn’t a chicken. Batta-bump-shsh…

OK, maybe it’s not a belly buster, but humor has it’s place in The Daniel Plan. According to Dr. Daniel Amen, laughter influences your brain, heart and blood-vessel functions. In a study conducted by the University of Maryland, 19 of 20 people measured increased blood flow to the heart when watching a funny movie.

“Laughing causes the body to release chemicals called endorphins, which may counteract the effects of stress hormones,” says Dr. Amen in his best-selling book “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body.” Laughing may also boost your immune system and reduce inflammation, he says.

So Dr. Amen suggests watching comedy television shows and movies, go to comedy clubs, read joke books, and learn to laugh at yourself.

“When you drop the milk jug and it goes splashing across the kitchen floor, when you call a business associate by the wrong name, or when you stumble over your words while in front of a group, be the first to chuckle at yourself,” Dr. Amen said. “When you stop taking yourself so seriously, your stress levels will subside.

I will laugh at the world

Sign of the Times: Candy and Cookies Tower Over Health Books
Look closely and you might find health books at your local retail stores. At this store, just head for the candy section.

“I will smile and my digestion will improve;
I will chuckle and my burdens will be lightened;
I will laugh and my life will be lengthened for this is the great secret of long life and now it is mine. I will laugh at the world.”

It’s Time to Stop Down and Have a Good Laugh!!
David Blanchard, CEO
The Og Mandino Group

Every Tuesday at 1 pm you will find Ramona and me in a coaching session with our four married daughters. All are well educated and have chosen the noble calling of being a mom.

In a recent coaching session we decided it was time for a little laughter. Each selected a Scroll, studied it thoroughly and then created a humorous parody that addressed a “reality” in their life. When they shared their thoughts, I laughed so hard my drink came out my nose. Could you use a little laughter? Enjoy. But first the jokes Cyndi brought to the session today….

Cyndi’s jokes (she didn’t write them, but could have):

Incontinence Hotline… Can you hold?

The trouble with being a leader today is that you can’t be sure whether people are following you or chasing you.

Eagles may soar, but weasels don’t get sucked into jet engines.

Alcohol and calculus don’t mix. Never drink and derive.

Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things.

If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is definitely not for you.

What is the difference between ignorance, apathy, and ambivalence? I don’t know and I don’t care one way or the other.
