In a world where so many distractions compete for your attention, it is more important than ever to stop the busyness, and focus on God’s plan and priorities for your life. The bottom line is whatever gets your attention gets you. Rather than allowing negative thoughts to consume you, focus instead on all the good things God has provided that will enrich and honor your body, mind, and spirit. Making the choice to dwell in God’s goodness will give you renewed energy and vitality, and equip you to live your life with passion and purpose.

Your mental health is vital to your overall health. When your brain works right, you work right. When your brain is healthy, your ability to focus increases and you find yourself making better decisions overall. Make the choice to get healthier. With that one decision you will begin a journey to wellness that will offer you increased energy, lower stress, and better sleep. One of the most important elements of the Focus Essential is to know your motivation; why you want to get healthy.  Identifying your motivation will help you stay the course when you are on track and even when things are tougher.  Spend some time reflecting on what this is for you.  Is it to live out God’s will?  To be physically healthy so you can enjoy your active family?  Increase your mental clarity?  Run the next 5K in your neighborhood?  Keep an image or reminder of your motivation in a place where you can reflect on it everyday.

Beyond understanding your motivation, a practical way to focus your mind on all that is good, is to develop a daily practice of expressing your gratitude.  Modern research reveals that being consistently grateful will have a positive effect on your health. This only confirms what the Bible has been saying all along. God designed us in such a way that gratitude promotes healing.

As you restore your thoughts, you are able to think clearer and set goals for your journey.  Proverbs 16:9 (NLT) tells us, “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.” This gives us two action points; plan and step. Then ultimately, God directs our lives. God cannot direct our steps if we are not taking any. Throughout your Daniel Plan journey we will offer you practical ways to develop mental clarity, keep a positive outlook and learn how to set smart goals.
