Excerpt from “Lose It for Life Devotional,” by Stephen Arterburn, M.Ed
“He is not far from each one of us. For in him we live and move and have our being.”
–Acts 17:27B-28
Some days it seems as though God is far away, watching us struggle from a distance. We know He created the whole universe, and at times we may feel insignificant. So we ask, “How could God be directly involved in my life?” We wonder if he really cares about us personally or if He is even paying attention. Yet we mustn’t lose hope. God is not absent or unaware!
In Acts 17 Paul reminds us that God is not far from us. In fact, He is ever present, every minute of our life. Yes, He is the Creator of the universe, but as such He has chosen to be not only God Almighty, but “God With Us.” It is truly in Him that we live and move and have our being. Among His many blessings, He gives us our very life and breath. He gives us whatever movement we have and a soul that can live with Him forever. Our very existence reveals that God is with us, for it is by His design that we are alive.
